How PDFly handles your files

Core tools (merge, split, compress, convert, protect and similar) process the file in your browser. The file content is not sent to PDFly servers.

AI tools (Chat with PDF, Summarizer, Translator, Explain, Quiz, Rewrite, OCR PDF and OCR Image) send extracted text, or page and image data for OCR, to our server and to Google Gemini to produce a result. PDFly does not store this content beyond what is needed to complete the request.

Is PDFly free to use?

Yes. Every tool is free, with no signup and no watermarks. PDFly is supported by non-intrusive advertising.

Do I need to create an account?

No. Open any tool and start working.

Are my files stored on your servers?

For most tools, no. They run in your browser and the file is not uploaded. The AI-powered tools are the exception: they send extracted text (or page/image data for OCR) to our server and AI provider to generate a result. See the privacy policy.

What is the maximum file size?

Core tools have no artificial size cap, because processing happens on your device. Practical limits depend on your device memory. AI tools cap the amount of text or pages per request, and each AI tool page lists its limit.

Which browsers are supported?

Any modern browser, including Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Edge on desktop, and mobile browsers on Android and iOS.

Can I edit PDF files?

Yes. PDFly has a PDF editor and tools to annotate, highlight, redact, watermark, crop and fill forms.

How many files can I process?

Core tools have no limit on the number of files. The AI tools share a daily capacity across all users.
