What gets converted, and what does not

PDFly's EPUB to PDF tool is a text converter. It reads the text from each chapter file inside the EPUB and sets it in a clean, single-column layout with a standard font on A4 or Letter pages.

• Carried over: the body text of the book, split into paragraphs and paginated automatically.
• Not carried over: images, cover art, tables, custom fonts, colours, hyperlinks and interactive elements.
• Characters: letters outside the standard Western European (Latin-1) range, such as Cyrillic, Arabic, Chinese, or letters like ş and ğ, are replaced with a question mark.
• Chapter order: chapters follow the reading order defined inside the EPUB, so the PDF matches the book. Very unusual or damaged EPUBs fall back to file-name order, so skim the first pages to confirm.

This makes the tool a good fit for novels, essays, articles, manuscripts and public-domain books such as those from Project Gutenberg. For image-heavy books like cookbooks, comics or textbooks, a desktop tool such as Calibre will keep more of the layout.

Good to know

• Check the output's font rendering on the first few pages — EPUB reflowable text becomes fixed-layout PDF pages.
• For print, convert then run through Add Page Numbers for a properly paginated document.
• Simpler EPUBs with standard formatting convert more reliably than heavily styled ones with custom CSS.
• Reflowable EPUB layout is converted to fixed PDF pages, so text reflow and adjustable font size are lost.
• Embedded EPUB fonts and complex styling may not carry over exactly.
• DRM-protected EPUB files can't be converted — the DRM must be removed by the rights holder's own tool first.

Troubleshooting

• Chapters come out in the wrong order: Chapter files are read and ordered alphabetically by their internal filenames. If an EPUB names its files inconsistently (e.g. "chapter1", "chapter10", "chapter2"), they can sort out of the intended reading order.
• Images are missing from the PDF: Only the text content of each chapter is extracted — embedded images inside the EPUB aren't carried over to the PDF.
• Some characters show up as "?": The PDF font used doesn't support every character set — non-Latin scripts or emoji in the EPUB can be replaced with "?" in the output.
• "No content found in this EPUB": The tool couldn't find any readable chapter files inside the archive — this can happen with non-standard or DRM-protected EPUBs.
• "Please select an EPUB file": Only files with a .epub extension are accepted — check the file wasn't renamed from another format.
