Split PDF

Split a PDF into multiple files by page ranges or every N pages. Free, private, browser-based — no upload, no signup. Download results as a ZIP.

Stays in your browser

Processing runs on your own device. Your files are not uploaded to a server, so private documents stay private.

Cut a large PDF into smaller files, either every N pages or by custom page ranges you define, and download all the resulting PDFs together as a single ZIP. Use Every N pages for equal chunks and Custom ranges when you need to choose exactly which pages go into each file.

How it works

Upload a PDF, choose how to split it — every N pages, or custom page ranges you define — and PDFly cuts it into separate files entirely in your browser. All the resulting PDFs are bundled into a single ZIP for download.

Good to know

  • Your file is processed entirely on your device — it's never uploaded to a server.
  • Custom ranges use 1-based page numbers, e.g. 1-3, 4-6, 7.
  • Works with any standard PDF, including scanned documents.

Troubleshooting

  • "Invalid range" or "out of bounds" error: Custom ranges use 1-based page numbers and must fall within the document's total page count — check the total shown after upload and re-enter the range.
  • "Could not split this PDF": The file may be corrupted or password-protected. Try Unlock PDF or Repair PDF first, then split the result.
  • The ZIP is missing a file I expected: Each range or chunk you defined becomes one file in the ZIP — double-check your ranges cover every page you wanted split out.
  • Splitting a large PDF is slow: Splitting happens entirely in your browser's memory, so very large files can take longer on phones or older computers.

Frequently asked questions

No. Splitting happens entirely in your browser using pdf-lib — your file never leaves your device.
"Every N pages" creates equal-sized chunks automatically. "Custom ranges" lets you define exactly which pages go into each file.
