Translate the text of a PDF into one of 31 languages. The text is extracted in your browser, then sent to PDFly’s server, which forwards it to Google Gemini to translate. The result is plain translated text, not a re-typeset PDF, only the first 40,000 characters are translated, and scanned PDFs need OCR PDF first. Have a person review technical or critical documents.

The process is significantly faster than manual translation, but it's worth noting that speed comes with some trade-offs. The translation quality is generally strong for common languages, but it's not perfect. For most business and personal use cases, it's more than sufficient. For legal contracts or medical documents, you'd still want a human review.

It's worth noting that translation quality varies by language. Common languages like Spanish, French, and German tend to translate more reliably, since the underlying model has seen far more training data for them. Less common languages may have somewhat lower accuracy.
This is the part worth being clear-eyed about: the tool translates the text content of your PDF, not the PDF itself. What you get back is plain translated text — not a new PDF with the original layout, fonts, images, or table structure rebuilt around it.
If you need a document that looks like the original but with translated text in place — same fonts, same layout, same tables — you'd need to rebuild that manually or with dedicated desktop publishing software after translating the text here.
The file itself is opened and its text extracted locally, in your browser — the original PDF is never uploaded. To generate the translation, that extracted text is sent to PDFly's server, which forwards it to Google Gemini, our AI provider. PDFly processes the extracted text for the request; see the Privacy page for the current data-handling policy. If you're translating something highly sensitive that shouldn't leave your device at all, that's worth weighing before using this tool specifically.
